Large floral wallpaper: how big is too big?

A large flower may be exactly what you love about a wallpaper. The question is where it will sit on your wall. A floral composition that looks balanced in a wide product image can have a very different crop above a sofa or on a narrow accent wall. Start with how much space the flowers will have and where you'll be looking at them from.

Judge the flower on the wall you have

The wall's width and height affect how a mural fits the surface. Try your dimensions in the preview on the product page. Look at which flowers are included and where their centers sit. That is more useful than judging the size from an image on your phone.

My Greenhouse Flowers I is one of our most ordered floral designs. Large blue and pale flowers on tall stems make it a clear example of an image where each bloom has a presence. The light background leaves visible spaces between them.

We'd choose it for a wall where some of the flowers can show fully. Move the composition in the preview and check whether a doorway, a tall piece of furniture, or the edge of the wall cuts through the flower you like most.

Don't rule out a large flower simply because the room is small. Check that the detail you love will be visible and that the contrast feels right from the distance where you'll see it.

A large design can feel soft or bold

Size is only part of the effect. The contrast between the flower and its background matters, too. A pale flower against a dark background stands out differently from a drawn flower in closely related tones.

Vintage Peonies has large drawn peonies on a gray-toned, weathered background. We'd look at it when you want large flowers with a more subdued character. See how the drawn details show from your usual seat.

A small wall can have one large flower as its main image. On a larger wall, several large flowers can form a whole composition. Choose which effect you want to see, then check that your favorite details sit on the open area.

Do you want flowers to repeat around the room?

A mural gives the wall an image with a defined composition. A repeating floral pattern lets the same shapes appear in more places. It can be a good choice if you want to wallpaper several walls or have plenty of windows and doors.

Magnolia Season has white flowers and winding branches against a light blue background. The pattern can continue through the room's different wall sections. You're choosing the way the flowers repeat as a whole, rather than the position of one large bloom.

Look at product images from both near and far. A pattern with plenty of detail close to the wall may read as a more unified surface from across the room. Check both views if you use the room in different ways.

Use the sample for the right question

A wallpaper sample is a small printed piece of wallpaper you can order to see the colors at home before choosing. Hold it by the wall where the wallpaper will go and compare it with the room's lighting and the furniture you'll keep.

For Magnolia Season, the sample also shows the pattern at its actual size. The samples for My Greenhouse Flowers I and Vintage Peonies are reduced images. Use their previews to judge the flowers' size on the wall.

Don't rule out a large flower simply because the room is small. Check that the detail you love will be visible and that the contrast feels right from the distance where you'll see it. That gives you a concrete reason to choose the scale you like.
