Wallpaper - Cranes No2

Designed by Andrea Haase, our Cranes No2 wallpaper creates an architectural trompe l'oeil view into an exotic garden landscape. The composition is framed by a weathered arched double window, with an ornamental ironwork fence running along the lower edge. Beyond the arches, graceful cranes and a heron rest among fan palms and tropical foliage against soft, overcast skies. The muted palette relies on smokey gray tones, earthy taupe, and subtle blue-gray feathers, accented by warm rust and orange markings on the birds' heads. Like all our wall murals, this design is made-to-measure and printed on PVC-free paper with a subtle physical structure.

In the room

Because the trompe l'oeil arches create an illusion of architectural depth, we find this wallpaper works best when placed on a main uninterrupted wall where the full arched framing can be appreciated. In a bedroom, it serves naturally behind a headboard, turning the wall into a quiet garden vista. In a living room, giving the design an open stretch of wall allows the vertical reach of the palm fronds and the arched masonry to add height and visual interest. The low-contrast, smokey gray background means the large-scale scenic motif commands attention without overwhelming the room.

Styling it

To complement the vintage, heritage mood of the design, we would look toward interiors with classic or eclectic character.

• Pair with warm dark wood furniture, such as antique walnut or aged mahogany, which anchors the neutral grays of the wallpaper and echoes the 19th-century botanical feel.
• Introduce decorative hardware or lighting in antique brass, blackened iron, or bronze to pick up on the architectural fence motif along the bottom of the arches.
• Keep larger upholstered pieces and curtains in understated, solid neutral fabrics to let the intricate foliage and bird illustrations remain the clear focal point.

Colour combinations

The wallpaper is built around a sophisticated base of smokey gray, slate, soft cloud white, and earthy olive-taupe, highlighted by subtle rusty orange details on the cranes. For surrounding walls and trim, warm charcoal or deep stone gray creates an enveloping, atmospheric look. If you prefer a lighter contrast, soft putty or chalky warm off-whites allow the framed arches to stand out crisply. Subtle rust, ochre, or deep indigo can also be drawn from the birds and used as accent shades in cushions, throws, or decorative ceramics.
