Wallpaper - Conoid Grain, Payne's Grey

Our Conoid Grain, Payne's Grey wallpaper brings the organic movement of wood grain into a graphic, stylised repeat. Rendered in cool Payne's grey and muted slate tones, the flowing line work traces undulating rings, knots, and vertical fibres across the surface. What we particularly like is how the design balances architectural precision with natural, fluid shapes, giving the wall a calm yet graphic presence. Like all our wallpapers, this mural is made-to-measure to your exact wall dimensions and printed on PVC-free paper with a subtle physical structure.

In the room

We see this design working beautifully across an accent wall in a living room, bedroom, or home office where you want pattern without loud colour. The vertical grain naturally draws the eye upwards, which can help emphasise ceiling height in rooms with standard or lower proportions. Because the motif is dense yet tonally restrained, it also sits comfortably on a wider, uninterrupted wall behind a bed or low media unit without overwhelming the space. In an entryway or dining area, the graphic linework provides visual interest from a distance while revealing fine, drawn details up close.

Styling it

The cool, architectural grey palette pairs especially well with minimalist, mid-century modern, or contemporary interior schemes. To complement the fluid linework, we suggest styling with clean-lined furniture in warm woods or painted black finishes to create subtle contrast against the cool wall surface. Soft, textured upholstery and matte ceramics help balance the graphic lines, keeping the overall atmosphere warm and welcoming.

Colour combinations

The wallpaper is composed of deep Payne's grey linework over a cool, misty grey backdrop. To build a cohesive room around it, we recommend pairing the design with crisp off-whites, charcoal, or deep slate on adjacent walls and woodwork. If you want to introduce subtle warmth, muted terracotta, dusty ochre, or earthy stone accents in decorative objects and textiles provide a balanced, natural contrast to the grey foundation.
