Wallpaper - Yellow Headed Blackbird

Our Yellow Headed Blackbird wallpaper, created in collaboration with Nathan Larson, captures a solitary bird perched among feathery, soft-toned reeds against a muted, atmospheric background. What we particularly appreciate about this mural design is the gentle balance between the sharp, graphic contrast of the bird's dark plumage and golden-yellow head, and the soft, diffused textures of the surrounding grasses. The composition brings a grounded, natural presence to a room without feeling visually overwhelming. Like all our wall murals, this design is made-to-measure to fit your specific wall dimensions and printed on PVC-free paper with a subtle surface structure.

In the room

Because of the scale of the composition and the natural focal point created by the bird, we see this wallpaper working especially well on a main feature wall in a living room, bedroom, or quiet study. Giving the mural an uninterrupted wall area lets the wide, open sky and surrounding reed textures unfold fully. In a bedroom, placing it behind the headboard creates a serene backdrop, while in an entryway or dining area, the vertical lines of the tall reeds help draw the eye upward and anchor the space.

Styling it

When decorating around this design, we recommend letting the natural textures in the motif guide your interior choices. The muted, desaturated tones make it easy to integrate with a variety of furniture styles, from contemporary Scandinavian to warm, rustic settings.

• Low-profile furniture works best here to keep the central subject visible and give the wide horizon space to breathe.
• Natural wood tones like warm oak, ash, or walnut echo the earthy character of the dry grasses and reeds.
• Textured textiles in off-white, oat, or unbleached linen complement the soft reed plumes without competing for attention.

Color combinations

The primary palette of this wallpaper combines warm ochre and golden yellow with deep black, soft taupe, wheat, and cool, hazy gray-blue tones in the background. To create a cohesive look around the mural, we would pair it with wall paint or woodwork in soft off-whites, warm biscuit beige, or muted chalky neutrals. For a bolder accent that ties back to the focal point, subtle touches of charcoal or dark bronze in decorative hardware and light fixtures provide a nice visual connection to the bird's feathers.
