Wallpaper - Food Phrases IV

Created by designer Becky Thorns, our Food Phrases IV wallpaper brings casual, graphic energy to a wall with bold hand-lettered greetings. Rendered in deep navy blue against a soft off-white ground, the script stacks "hola," "salut," and "ciao" in expressive, brush-like strokes with painted visual texture. The composition balances generous negative space with lively lettering, making it a distinct graphic statement. Like all our wall murals, this design is made-to-measure on PVC-free paper with a subtle surface texture.

In the room

Because the lettering has substantial vertical scale and generous open space around it, we find this design works exceptionally well as an accent wall in an entryway, kitchen, or dining area. In an entryway or hallway, the stacked greetings set an immediate, welcoming tone as you step through the door.

In a kitchen or breakfast nook, giving the design an open wall above a banquette or alongside a dining table lets the full typographic composition breathe. The high contrast between navy and cream holds up well in bright morning daylight without overwhelming smaller spaces, making it just as effective on a compact accent wall as it is in a larger open-plan layout.

Styling it

We recommend letting the bold typography remain the focal point of the space by pairing it with simple, grounded furnishings. Mid-century modern or contemporary wooden furniture in warm oak or rich walnut balances the crisp graphic look of the navy script.

To complement the hand-lettered style, look to understated accents with clean lines, such as matte black lighting fixtures or dark metal dining chairs. Keeping nearby textiles solid or subtly textured ensures the room feels cohesive without competing with the statement lettering.

Color combinations

The design itself is built on a focused palette of deep navy blue set against an ivory, off-white background.

When choosing colors for adjacent walls, trim, and cabinetry, we suggest leaning into soft neutrals or complementary accents:

• Warm whites, cream, and pale greige harmonize naturally with the background and keep the room bright and open.
• Deep navy, midnight blue, or slate gray on baseboards, doors, or lower cabinets pick up the exact tone of the lettering to create a tailored, intentional frame.
• Muted warm tones, such as terracotta, mustard, or olive green in surrounding decor or kitchenware, provide an inviting contrast against the cool navy ink.
