Wallpaper - Melting

Created by artist Kate Jarvik Birch, our Melting wallpaper presents a striking, painterly study of an ice cube slowly dissolving into a reflective pool of water. What we particularly like about this design is the balance between crisp geometric edges and fluid watercolor-like brushwork. The composition captures light refracting through clear ice with soft sky blues, deep navy, cool aqua, and subtle hints of warm yellow and amber reflections. Produced made-to-measure on PVC-free paper with a subtle surface structure, it brings a fresh, contemporary artistic presence to any interior.

In the room

Because of its bold, large-scale central motif, this design works especially well as a feature wall where the complete artwork can be appreciated without visual interruption. In a contemporary living room, dining area, or home office, we see this wall mural acting as an expressive focal point behind a low-profile sofa, a dining table, or a desk. The cool blue tones and clean architectural backdrop within the painting give the design an airy, calm character, while the expressive linework keeps it visually engaging across a wider wall area.

Styling it

When styling around this mural wallpaper, we suggest keeping surrounding elements clean and modern to let the artwork take center stage.

• Pair the wallpaper with minimalist furniture featuring streamlined silhouettes, such as low credenzas or sleek shelving, to avoid cluttering the visual field.
• Choose natural light wood finishes, like pale ash or light oak, or opt for smooth matte black surfaces to echo the deep, defined outlines of the ice cube.
• Incorporate simple glass, chrome, or polished ceramic decorative accents that subtly pick up on the reflective, luminous quality of the motif.

Color combinations

The artwork features a spectrum of cool blues, crisp whites, translucent aquas, and deep charcoal-navy tones, complemented by quiet hints of pale ochre and warm gray. To complement these shades, we recommend using crisp off-whites, cool grays, or soft muted blues on adjacent walls and trim. If you want to introduce subtle warmth into the room, soft amber, honeyed wood tones, or pale sand accents in your furnishings create a balanced contrast against the icy blue palette.
