Wallpaper - River Mist

Our River Mist wallpaper, created by artist Julia Purinton, captures a quiet, atmospheric landscape layered in soft morning haze and gentle light. A winding waterway drifts through low banks and subtle silhouettes of trees, dissolved into an expansive, luminous sky of muted cream, warm beige, and smoky taupe. What we especially appreciate about this mural wallpaper is its painterly depth and brushstroke texture, which give the impression of an original canvas painting scaled up across the room. Printed made-to-measure on our PVC-free paper with a subtle surface structure, it brings an understated, scenic calm to any interior.

In the room

We love this design on a main accent wall in a living room, bedroom, or dining area where the horizon line has space to breathe. The composition is grounded along the lower half, leaving a generous, airy field of sky across the upper wall. Because the upper tones are soft and warm, it works wonderfully behind a sofa or low headboard without feeling overcrowded or visual heavy. In a dining space, giving it an uninterrupted wall allows the gentle curves of the riverbank to establish an expansive sense of depth.

Styling it

Because the artwork has an expressive, tonal character, we suggest keeping the surrounding furniture relatively grounded and organic. Furniture pieces in warm wood, such as light oak or walnut, complement the earthy undertones of the shoreline without competing with the brushwork.

Pairing the wallpaper with soft linen textiles and matte ceramic accents helps echo the subtle visual texture of the painted landscape. To maintain the open, restful feel, choose furniture with clean, low-profile silhouettes that let the mural remain the primary focal point of the space.

Color combinations

The palette within the design transitions between warm biscuit, gentle cream, muted greys, and deep charcoal-taupe along the foreground.

To create a cohesive atmosphere, we recommend carrying creamy warm whites or pale oatmeal onto adjacent painted walls and ceiling surfaces. For trim and baseboards, a soft warm grey or a muted taupe pulled from the distant tree line creates a tailored frame around the landscape. If you want a bit more contrast, deeper espresso or charcoal accents in lighting or furniture legs ground the lighter tones of the sky.
