Wallpaper - Nantucket Afternoon

Our Nantucket Afternoon wallpaper, created with artist Kathy Ferguson, brings together horizontal bands of mixed visual patterns, abstract shapes, and painterly collage textures. The composition balances playful stripes in vibrant magenta with delicate lavender washes, pencil-like scrawls, muted teal geometric motifs, and deep indigo accents. Light paper-like cutouts and softly curved mounds punctuate the horizontal strips, creating a dynamic visual rhythm with plenty of artistic character. Made-to-measure on our PVC-free paper with a subtle surface structure, this design brings an expressive, modern gallery feel to any interior.

In the room

We love seeing this design across a wide, uninterrupted wall where the full horizontal flow of the collage can stretch out naturally. In a living room behind a low-profile sofa or along a main dining room wall, the artwork acts as a commanding focal point that instantly enlivens the space. The multi-layered composition also works wonderfully in a creative home office or an inspiring bedroom, where the blend of soft lilacs and energetic fuchsia stripes can be appreciated up close. Because the pattern has a strong horizontal direction, it naturally emphasizes the width of a room while keeping the eye moving across different painted textures and line details.

Styling it

Because our wallpaper has so much graphic variety and color personality, we suggest pairing it with clean-lined furniture that lets the wall mural remain the primary visual feature. Mid-century modern silhouettes or contemporary Scandinavian pieces with light wood finishes, such as ash or pale oak, complement the breezy coastal tones without competing with the artwork.

For surrounding accents, look to the softer elements in the print. Smooth ceramics, matte off-white surfaces, and solid textiles in unbleached cotton or soft blush help anchor the room. Keeping nearby fabrics solid or subtly woven allows the distinct stripes and scribbled pencil details in the design to stand out clearly.

Color combinations

The color palette in our design centers on cool lavender, soft lilac, and crisp white, energized by a bold band of magenta stripes and grounded by deep navy, slate blue, and dusty teal.

When choosing paint colors for adjacent walls or trim, we recommend pulling directly from these background shades:

• Soft chalky whites or pale lavender-gray on adjoining walls will keep the room bright and open while echoing the paper's lighter collage layers.
• A deep indigo or navy on surrounding woodwork, built-in shelving, or an accent door creates a striking contrast that picks up the darker blue bands in the artwork.
• Muted dusty rose, soft plum, or pale sage accents in decorative details will harmonize gently with the warmer magenta and teal elements.
