Wallpaper - Virginia Beach Skyline Black & White

Created by Michael Tompsett, this graphic skyline wallpaper captures Virginia Beach through a striking ink-style silhouette. The horizontal composition sets architectural landmarks, a coastal pier, a Ferris wheel, and lighthouses against an open, crisp white background. Beneath the architectural skyline, dynamic ink drips and paint splatters bleed downward, bringing an artistic, painterly energy to the sharp black-and-white contrast. Produced made-to-measure on our PVC-free paper with a subtle surface structure, this design offers a bold, graphic focal point that balances clean negative space with expressive detail.

In the room

We see this design working particularly well as an accent wall in a living room, home office, or dedicated study. Because the skyline is arranged along a strong horizontal line with generous white space above, the motif naturally draws the eye across the room without feeling heavy or visually crowded. In a home office or study, positioning the mural wallpapers along the main wall behind a desk creates a focused, graphic backdrop. In a living room, giving the wallpaper a wide, uninterrupted wall allows the full breadth of the architectural profile, from the pier to the high-rise silhouettes, to remain completely visible.

Styling it

The high-contrast monochrome palette gives this design a clean, contemporary presence that pairs naturally with modern and urban-inspired interiors. We would keep the surrounding furniture relatively grounded, choosing pieces with clean lines and understated profiles so the wallpaper carries the visual rhythm of the space.

Warm wood furniture, such as natural oak or deeper walnut, helps soften the sharp contrast between the black ink and bright background. Matte black metal lighting fixtures or minimalist shelving harmonize with the graphic silhouette, while unpatterned textiles in woven textures keep the focus squarely on the artwork.

Color combinations

The wallpaper is composed entirely of deep charcoal black and crisp white, with delicate tonal grays within the textured ink wash.

When choosing paint colors for adjacent walls and trim, we recommend working with clean off-whites, neutral grays, or muted slate tones to maintain a calm, cohesive environment. If you prefer to introduce color elsewhere in the room, muted accents like burnt ochre, moss green, or warm cognac leather provide an inviting counterpoint to the stark black-and-white palette without competing with the motif.
