Wallpaper - Technicolor Downpour

Our Technicolor Downpour wallpaper, created by Kate Jarvik Birch, captures a rain-slicked city street illuminated by glowing storefronts, traffic lights, and atmospheric reflections. A silhouetted figure with an umbrella walks along the sidewalk beneath painted rain streaks, surrounded by deep indigos, slate blues, luminous oranges, and warm amber tones. What we particularly like about this design is the painterly contrast between the shadowy night atmosphere and the vibrant reflections shimmering across wet pavement. Made-to-measure and PVC-free, this design brings rich narrative depth and evocative color to an accent wall.

In the room

Because of its expressive composition and painterly perspective, we see this design working exceptionally well as a feature wall in a living room, dining room, or a dedicated home office. The vertical perspective pulls the eye forward into the illuminated street, which helps add depth to rooms with standard ceiling heights. On a wider uninterrupted wall, such as behind a sofa or along an open dining area, the full balance between the dark night sky and the glowing storefront reflections can unfold naturally without being crowded by tall furniture.

In spaces with softer evening lighting, the warm amber, red, and golden tones along the storefronts catch a cozy glow, while daylight reveals the subtle shifts among the deep blue and slate brushwork in the upper sky and rainy roadway.

Styling it

When styling around this mural wallpaper, we suggest balancing its expressive brushstrokes and rich palette with clean-lined, grounded furniture:

• Choose darker wood finishes like walnut or matte black painted pieces to echo the strong silhouette of the figure and urban street structures.
• Select upholstery and textiles in muted, solid shades such as slate blue, deep charcoal, or warm rust to pull out individual tones from the street reflections without competing with the pictorial detail.
• Incorporate simple lighting with warm-temperature bulbs and subdued brass or blackened metal fixtures that complement the evening glow of the streetlamps and shopfronts.

Color combinations

The artwork features a striking interplay of deep indigo, slate teal, and charcoal against vivid bursts of luminous orange, warm amber, scarlet, and pale streetlamp yellow.

To create a balanced interior, we recommend pairing the wallpaper with adjacent walls painted in a soft, muted charcoal or a quiet slate blue that flows out from the rainy sky. If you prefer a warmer backdrop, a desaturated ochre or soft warm gray on surrounding trim and cabinetry will comfortably reflect the glow of the sidewalk lights.
