Wallpaper - Within Reach

Created in collaboration with artist Kate Jarvik Birch, our Within Reach mural wallpaper captures a dramatic, painterly moment of connection. Two outstretched hands emerge from a deep, velvety dark backdrop, rendered in expressive brushstrokes and rich tonal highlights ranging from warm terracotta and rose to deep plum and cool ivory. The strong chiaroscuro lighting and large-scale figurative motif give this design an unmistakable artistic presence on the wall. Like all Wallism wall murals, it is made-to-measure to fit your room dimensions and printed on our PVC-free paper with a subtle physical surface texture.

In the room

Because of the scale and strong diagonal movement of the hands, we see this design working especially well as an anchor on a wider, relatively uninterrupted wall. In a living room or primary bedroom, placing it behind a low-profile sofa or headboard gives the central composition plenty of space to breathe while keeping the focal point in full view.

The dark, immersive background also makes it a striking choice for a dedicated dining room, home office, or library where you want to create an intimate, enveloping atmosphere. In spaces with generous natural light, the subtle brushstroke details and tonal shifts across the skin tones become particularly vivid, while softer evening lighting enhances the moody, theatrical contrast between the figures and the dark ground.

Styling it

When styling around a wall mural with such a strong figurative focus, we prefer keeping large furniture relatively grounded and quiet in form so the artwork remains the primary story in the room.

• Choose low-slung seating or platform beds with clean, architectural lines that do not compete with the diagonal reach of the hands.
• Balance the deep background with warm wood furniture or matte black metal accents to reinforce the contrast without introducing busy patterns.
• Keep surrounding textiles in solid, rich textures like heavy woven wool, velvet, or simple linen in muted plum, taupe, or deep charcoal.

Color combinations

The artwork itself is defined by a deep ink-black and charcoal navy background paired with complex skin tones that move through rose, dusty pink, terracotta, warm taupe, and cool ivory highlights.

To create a cohesive scheme, we recommend pairing the wallpaper with adjacent painted walls or trim in a soft, chalky greige or warm off-white to let the deep background stand out crisply. Alternatively, carrying a deep charcoal, midnight navy, or dark berry hue onto surrounding doors and baseboards creates a striking tone-on-tone effect that wraps the entire space in rich color.
