How to measure your wall

Since we're all about custom wallpaper, measuring your wall is part of the Wallism experience.

General

To produce your chosen design, we need two numbers – the width of your wall at the widest point and the height of your wall at the tallest point.

Only measure the area that should be covered by the wallpaper or mural, so do not include edging boards or coving. Bring out a tape measure and a pen and scribble the numbers down. It's as simple as that.

NOTE: When you place your order, add 2-4 inches / 5-10 cm to your measurement to make installation easier and safer.

Standard wall

Measure the full width and height of the surface you want to cover at the highest and widest point. Don't include edge boards. Double-check that you have the exact measurements.
When placing your order, add 2-4 inches / 5-10 cm to your measurements.

Multiple walls

If you want your wallpaper or mural to continuously flow across and cover multiple adjacent walls, handle it as if it was one wall only. Simply combine the width of each wall and submit it as a single wall when ordering.

When placing your order, add 2-4 inches / 5-10 cm to your measurements.

NOTE: Do not divide the order into separate orders for each wall.

Treat multiple adjacent walls as one

Wall with door or window

If you have a door, window, or any other obstacle on your wall – ignore it and measure the full width and height of the room. The area for the obstacle will be cut out during installation.

When placing your order, add 2-4 inches / 5-10 cm to your measurements.

Sloped wall

In a room with a sloped wall, ignore the slope altogether and measure it as if it was a full rectangle - we need the full width and height of the wall.

We will provide you with the design (mural or wallpaper) as a full rectangular shape and the sloped part will be cut away during installation.

When placing your order, add 2-4 inches / 5-10 cm to your measurements.

Wall murals in stairs

Not all stairs look the same, but the general rule when measuring for a wall mural along stairs is not to measure the actual wall area (wall height x length of stairs), but to follow the guide below.

  1. HEIGHT. Measure the vertical drop from the highest point (at the ceiling at the top of the stairs) all the way down to the lowest point (at the floor at the bottom of the stairs).
  2. WIDTH. Measure the horizontal width of the stairs (not to be confused with the diagonal length of the stairs). See image for clarification.

NOTE: Your measurements should form a rectangle. The excess (which can be a lot when using a wall mural along stairs) will be cut away during installation, so take this into consideration when choosing your design.

NOTE: If you want to hang a repeat pattern, you only need to measure the height and width of the wall area, but you need to add extra height to compensate for the pattern repeat which can differ from design to design – contact [email protected] with your chosen design to get the pattern repeat.

When purchasing a mural (in purple) along stairs, you need to measure a large rectangle like in the image above.
