Oceans & Seascapes Wallpaper Murals

Ocean and seascape wallpapers bring the mood of open water into an interior, whether through a wide coastal horizon, the shifting blues of the deep sea, or the colour and detail of marine life beneath the surface. It's a broad category in terms of atmosphere, ranging from quiet and minimal to bold and immersive, but what most of these designs share is a sense of depth and space that few other motifs can match.

Finding the Right Room for an Ocean Wallpaper

Bedrooms are a natural home for softer seascape wallpapers. A muted shoreline or misty coastal view on a feature wall behind the bed can give the room a calm, unhurried character without demanding too much attention. In a living room, a more dramatic ocean mural wallpaper tends to work well as a focal point, particularly on a chimney breast or the wall behind a sofa, where it can give neutral or earthy furniture something to play against. Bathrooms suit this category well too, especially in smaller spaces where a sea-themed design can add a visual sense of openness. Marine life wallpapers, such as coral reef or underwater scenes, can also work well in a home office or a reading corner, where a little depth and visual interest is welcome.

Colours and Materials That Sit Well Alongside the Sea

Ocean-inspired wallpapers pair naturally with materials that carry a coastal feel. Light oak or washed timber furniture, linen and cotton textiles, and woven or rattan accents all tend to sit comfortably alongside sea and seascape designs without competing. For wall colours in adjoining spaces or on the remaining walls, sandy neutrals, warm whites, and soft sage greens work well with both cool blue-toned ocean palettes and warmer, sun-bleached imagery. If the wallpaper itself is rich in colour, keeping the rest of the room quieter usually gives the design room to breathe.

Coastal Style or Something More Contemporary

Ocean wallpapers are an obvious fit for coastal-inspired interiors, but they're not limited to that aesthetic. In a more pared-back or contemporary space, a minimalist horizon line or an abstract wave motif can introduce colour and texture without leaning into a full coastal scheme. Deeper, more graphic underwater designs can work in rooms with an industrial or maximalist edge, particularly when paired with dark metal accents and layered textiles. The key is deciding how much of the ocean character you want to carry through the rest of the room. A single feature wall keeps things restrained; covering two or more walls creates something more immersive, which can work especially well in rooms with high ceilings or generous natural light.
