Wallpaper Murals for Common Areas

The common areas of a hotel or resort carry more visual responsibility than almost any other space in the building. Lobbies, lounges, corridors and reception areas are where guests form their first impressions, and wallpapers in these spaces need to do more than simply fill a wall. They need to establish a mood, support the overall design direction and hold up across varying lighting conditions and different times of day.

Setting the right tone in lobbies and reception areas

Large-scale wall murals tend to work well in entrance lobbies and reception halls, where there is enough wall to give a design genuine presence. A bold mural behind a reception desk can anchor the space and give it a clear sense of character without competing with the activity in front of it. Softer approaches, such as abstract compositions or refined geometric patterns, can work equally well where the intention is to feel welcoming rather than striking. The key is that the wallpaper feels purposeful rather than incidental.

Lounges, corridors and the spaces in between

Lounge areas often benefit from wallpapers that bring a warmer, more residential quality, encouraging guests to settle in rather than pass through. Botanical prints and soft landscape murals can work well here, particularly when the furniture leans towards natural materials and upholstered seating. Corridors and transitional spaces call for something more restrained. A textural wallpaper or a quiet repeat pattern can add depth and visual continuity without feeling too busy alongside the movement of guests.

Colour and material considerations for communal spaces

Colour choices matter particularly in communal areas because the wallpaper needs to hold up alongside a range of furniture finishes and under different lighting conditions. Warm neutrals and earthy tones tend to sit comfortably next to polished stone, timber panelling and brushed metal fixtures. Muted palettes can also help a space feel cohesive when the furnishings are varied. Where a richer or more saturated mural wallpaper is used as a focal point, keeping the surrounding walls quieter lets the design breathe and prevents the space from feeling overcrowded.

Scaling wallpaper to fit the space

Common areas vary enormously in scale, from grand double-height lobbies to narrower corridors and intimate lounge corners. Because Wallism's wallpapers and wall murals are made to measure, each design can be sized to fit the specific wall rather than working around standard dimensions, which is a practical consideration when the spaces involved are as varied as those found in a hotel or resort environment.
