Wallpapers & Wallpaper Murals for Chinese Restaurants

The atmosphere inside a Chinese restaurant does a lot of the storytelling before a single dish arrives. Wallpapers play a central role in shaping that first impression, whether the goal is a space that feels rooted in tradition or one that takes a more contemporary approach to Chinese dining culture. Getting the walls right means thinking carefully about colour, scale, and how the design sits alongside the furniture, lighting, and overall identity of the restaurant.

Setting the tone with colour and heritage

For a classic setting, wallpapers in deep reds, burnished golds, or ink-wash styles can reinforce a sense of warmth and cultural depth. These palettes work naturally alongside dark wood furniture, paper lanterns, and carved screen partitions. Botanical motifs such as cherry blossoms, bamboo, or birds in a painted or illustrative style are a strong fit for dining rooms that want to feel refined without being overly ornate. The combination of a rich wall colour and a considered motif can give a traditional Chinese dining room a layered, unhurried quality.

A more contemporary Chinese dining aesthetic

Chinese eateries with a modern aesthetic can take a different direction entirely. Abstract landscapes, large-scale nature scenes, or reinterpreted traditional patterns in muted or earthy tones can give a dining room a quieter, more sophisticated character. These styles tend to sit well with natural stone surfaces, brushed brass or matte metal fixtures, and restrained accent lighting. Going for cooler neutrals with a single bold mural wallpaper can feel confident without being heavy-handed.

Placing wall murals for the most impact

A single mural wallpaper on the wall behind a bar, at the entrance, or along the main dining wall can anchor a room without competing with the food or the table setting. In Chinese restaurants with distinct zones, such as a private dining room or a waiting area, a carefully chosen wall mural can give each space its own atmosphere while keeping the broader interior coherent. Smaller rooms benefit especially from a feature wall approach: one strong design does more visual work than several competing surfaces.

Fitting the design to your space

Restaurant walls vary considerably in size, proportion, and layout, so it is worth thinking about scale early. A design that reads well at full height across a wide dining wall may need a different composition in a narrow corridor or a low-ceilinged private room. Wallpapers and wall murals can be made to measure for your specific wall dimensions, which makes it easier to work with unusual proportions or non-standard layouts without having to compromise on the design you want.
