Great Masters Wallpapers & Wall Murals

Bringing the richness of art history into an interior, great masters wallpapers offer something genuinely unusual: imagery usually found in museum collections, scaled to fit a real wall. Drawing on iconic works from history's most celebrated painters, from the drama of Baroque compositions to the softer light of Impressionist canvases, these wall murals give a room a sense of depth and character that is difficult to achieve through furniture or paint alone.

Rooms that suit a large-scale art mural

This kind of wallpaper tends to work particularly well in spaces where you spend time with a degree of intention. A formal dining room, a study, a library or a bedroom that leans toward the refined rather than the minimal are all natural fits. High ceilings and period architectural details only add to the effect, giving the artwork the visual breathing room it needs to read properly at scale. That said, a great masters mural can also hold its own in a more pared-back setting, where the depth of a classical scene contrasts quietly with clean-lined furniture and uncluttered walls.

Palettes rooted in old masters painting

The colour palette typical of great masters art tends toward deep ochres, warm siennas, muted golds and shadowy blues. These tones can guide choices for the rest of the room: rugs, cushions, curtains and decorative objects all have something to work with. In a more traditional interior, dark wood furniture, velvet upholstery and layered textiles sit naturally alongside this kind of mural wallpaper. For a contemporary approach, keeping surrounding colours neutral and letting the artwork be the main event often works well. Warm linens, soft wools and understated rugs give the image room without competing for attention.

One wall is usually enough

A single great masters wallpaper panel used as a feature wall tends to carry a room without overwhelming it. Because these designs bring considerable visual presence on their own, the surrounding walls are often best kept simple. Where the artwork includes strong tonal contrasts, picking up a midtone from the composition for adjacent walls or soft furnishings can help the room feel connected rather than divided. If the space has ornate cornicing or decorative mouldings, these can frame a mural wallpaper in a way that feels genuinely intentional.

All wallpapers and wall murals are made to measure for your specific wall. A peel-and-stick option is available alongside traditional wallpaper, and both are PVC-free and non-toxic.
