Wallpaper for a small bedroom: a feature wall or every wall?

Every wall gives the pattern more places to show

If you want the wallpaper to shape the whole bedroom, a repeating pattern is a good starting point. It appears beside the bed, around the window and in the spaces next to the wardrobe. Even a room with lots of furniture can have several visible sections of the same pattern.

We would consider a leaf or floral pattern for this approach. Floral Gaze, Laurel has repeating flowers and leaves, so you can choose it for the pattern as a whole. A wallpaper sample is a small printed piece of wallpaper you can order to check the colours in your bedroom's light before deciding. Hold the sample against different walls and see how large the flowers look when you are sitting in bed and standing in the doorway.

Across several walls, the wallpaper's colour has a greater influence on the overall look. If you want plenty of light colour, choose a design where it covers much of the background. If you prefer a darker, more cocooning feel, you can choose that in a small bedroom too. Look at the sample in daylight and with the bedside lamps on before deciding.

Judge the scale from the places you use the room

Room size alone does not tell you which pattern size you will enjoy. In a bedroom, you see the wallpaper from the doorway, close to your pillow and perhaps from a chair by the window. A large leaf can be a lovely detail up close. A dense, small pattern may look more like a continuous surface from further away.

Look at the room from the bed too

The wall behind the headboard is clearly visible when you enter, but it is behind you when you sit in bed. If you want to see a landscape or another image from there, the wall at the foot of the bed may be a better place for a feature wall.

Check what is already there. A wardrobe may leave only a narrow area, while a low chest of drawers leaves more wall visible. Choose the design for that space and try its position before ordering.

Finally, take one photo from the doorway and another from the bed. Compare the two views. It will be easier to decide whether a feature wall gives you what you want to see, or whether you would prefer a repeating pattern around the whole room.
