Wallpaper - Common Cruiser Butterfly

Our Common Cruiser Butterfly wallpaper, created by Mackenzie Nelson, presents an expressive study of a single butterfly rendered with a painterly, textured brushstroke look. The design centres on rich ochre, caramel and dark chocolate brown tones across the wings, framed against a clean, off-white background with subtle pale grey brushwork shadowing the silhouette. The large scale of the motif gives the artwork immediate visual impact, balancing the fine markings along the wing margins with broad, warm areas of colour. Made to measure for your specific wall dimensions, this PVC-free wallpaper brings an artistic, illustrative focal point to any interior.

In the room

Because of the bold scale and central placement of the butterfly, we see this wall mural working particularly well as an accent wall in a living room, study, or bedroom. Positioned behind a bed headboard or behind a low sofa, the motif has the space to stand out without competing with taller furniture.

In smaller spaces like a hallway or dressing room, the clean background keeps the surrounding space open, while the warm brown palette creates an inviting, considered focal point. We would recommend giving this mural an uninterrupted wall area where the full span of the wings remains visible.

Styling it

The warm, earthy tones of the wings pair naturally with mid-toned or dark woods such as walnut, teak, or stained ash. Keeping surrounding furniture lines relatively clean and low-profile helps the large-scale butterfly remain the central artwork of the room.

To balance the detailed, painterly brushwork of the mural wallpapers, we would introduce softer tactile textures elsewhere in the space, such as linen throws, woven wool rugs, or matte ceramic accents in muted earth tones.

Colour combinations

The palette within our design centres on warm ochre, amber, chestnut brown, and deep espresso tones against an off-white and pale grey ground.

To build a harmonious palette around the mural, we suggest pairing it with warm off-white or soft biscuit shades on adjacent painted walls to echo the background. For a richer, more enveloping feel, deeper caramel, tobacco, or soft terracotta accents on upholstery and cabinetry draw directly from the wing pigments.
