Wallpaper - Yellow Headed Blackbird

Our Yellow Headed Blackbird wall mural features photographic nature imagery by Nathan Larson, capturing a yellow-headed blackbird perched atop feathering reed heads against an open, softly blurred horizon. We particularly like how the warm amber-gold plumage of the bird creates an immediate focal point amidst the pale, muted neutral tones of dry grasses and soft sky. The composition gives generous visual breathing space, keeping the lower reeds grounded while allowing the top portion of the wall to feel airy and light. Like all our wallpapers, this mural is made-to-measure to your specific wall dimensions on PVC-free paper with a subtle surface structure.

In the room

Because of the photographic depth and the clear focal point of the perched bird, we see this working exceptionally well as a feature wall in a living room, bedroom, or quiet study. The soft, out-of-focus background ensures that even on a larger uninterrupted wall, the design feels gentle rather than overwhelming. In a bedroom, placing this wallpaper behind the headboard allows the warm tones of the bird to draw the eye without disrupting the restful mood created by the surrounding pale reeds. In a hallway or entryway with good sightlines, the height of the vertical reeds naturally complements the verticality of the space.

Styling it

When styling around this design, we recommend keeping the surrounding interior grounded with understated, tactile elements that echo the natural landscape.

• Pair the mural with warm, mid-tone or light timber furniture to connect naturally with the golden feathers and dry grass tones.
• Choose soft, matte textiles such as woven cotton or unbleached wool in neutral ecru, oatmeal, or muted cream for upholstery and bedding.
• Add subtle contrast through matte black accents, like slender metal lamp bases or picture frames, drawing out the deep dark plumage of the bird.

Colour combinations

The palette in our wallpaper centres on warm amber and ochre in the bird's head, contrasted against deep charcoal black, set within a wider wash of pale biscuit, soft taupe, and pale sky grey. To complement this, we suggest painting adjacent walls and woodwork in warm, creamy whites, soft oatmeal, or pale linen greys. For cabinetry, accent chairs, or cushions, rich ochre, warm tobacco, or deep charcoal work wonderfully to pick up the distinct tones of the central bird.
