Wallpaper - Sketch World Map

Our Sketch World Map wallpaper by Omar Escalante presents a dramatic interpretation of global cartography through expressive, painterly mark-making. Set against a deep oceanic backdrop that shifts from rich petrol teal to shadowy charcoal at the edges, the continents emerge in textured layers of warm sand, ochre, and soft white brushwork. Delicate ocean lettering and a classic compass rose ground the artistic collage style with traditional cartographic charm. Made to measure on our PVC-free paper with a subtle physical surface structure, this design brings a confident, artistic atmosphere to any interior wall.

In the room

Because of its large-scale composition and rich contrast, we see this design working particularly well on a wide, uninterrupted wall where the full expanse of the world map can unfold naturally. In a home office or a dedicated study, placing the mural behind a desk or reading area creates an engaging focal point with an atmospheric, exploratory feel. It also sits comfortably in a home library, where the depth of the darker perimeter frames the room without overwhelming the space. Giving the wallpaper room to breathe without covering large portions of the motif allows the detailed brushwork across each continent to remain fully appreciated.

Styling it

To balance the dramatic depth of the background and the energetic brushstrokes across the map, we suggest pairing this design with furniture that has clean, grounded silhouettes. Darker stained timbers or mid-toned woods work exceptionally well alongside the warm sandy ochres, echoing the grounded, earthy palette of the landmasses. Incorporating matte black metal hardware or understated antique brass accents creates a cohesive dialogue with the compass detailing and deep teal tones. We would keep surrounding textiles relatively simple and textured rather than patterned, allowing the mural wallpapers to serve as the primary visual statement in the room.

Colour combinations

The core palette of our wallpaper balances deep petrol teal, charcoal, and dark slate blue with warm ochre, sandy yellow, and gentle off-white highlights. When choosing paint colours for adjoining walls, woodwork, or built-in shelving, rich muted navy or deep charcoal grey creates an intimate, enveloping setting that continues the dark edges of the mural. Alternatively, warm stone, pale sand, or soft parchment tones pulled from the continents will brighten adjacent surfaces while harmonising effortlessly with the artwork.
