Wallpaper - Catkins in Plaster I

In our Catkins in Plaster I design by Deborah Revell, delicate alder or birch-like twigs and hanging catkins trail down across a textured, layered plaster backdrop. The composition balances open, chalky white space with warm, weathered patches of soft sand, muted ochre, and deep brown botanical silhouettes. We produce our wallpapers made-to-measure on PVC-free paper with a subtle paper structure, creating a calm, understated backdrop that introduces the quiet geometry of nature into the home.

In the room

Because the botanical branches cascade from the upper edge and leave the lower half relatively open, we like using this design on a main feature wall behind lower furniture. In a bedroom, placing it behind a headboard lets the catkins drape naturally above the bed while the neutral plaster tones sit quietly behind bedside tables.

The generous negative space also makes it well suited to compact or narrow spaces, such as an entryway, hallway, or dressing room, where a busier full-coverage pattern might feel crowded. In a living room, dining room, or home office, it creates an artistic focal point across a wider, uninterrupted wall, catching the soft daylight without overwhelming the rest of the room.

Styling it

The restrained botanical motif and plaster-look surface pair naturally with organic modern, minimalist, and wabi-sabi interiors. We suggest keeping surrounding furniture clean-lined and unpretentious to let the delicate branch silhouettes stand out.

Natural wood tones such as pale ash, bleached oak, or deeper mid-century walnut complement the earthy brown notes in the catkins. For upholstery and textiles, unbleached linen, wool, or softly woven fabrics in cream, stone, or oatmeal harmonise easily with the weathered background. If you want to introduce metal accents, blackened bronze, matte black iron, or brushed antique brass add subtle grounding without competing with the mural wallpapers.

Colour combinations

The design itself is built on a quiet foundation of chalky white, off-white, and warm plaster tones, accented by soft taupe, muted sand, and deep espresso or charcoal in the twigs.

For adjacent walls, woodwork, and ceilings, we recommend continuing the calm feel with warm neutral paint colours such as soft linen white, warm ivory, or a pale stone grey. If you prefer a richer contrast in an adjoining room or on architectural trim, deep charcoal, muted olive, or rich burnt umber draw out the darkest elements of the botanical branches while keeping the overall palette grounded and cohesive.
