Wallpaper - Preparations

Our Preparations wallpaper brings the quiet charm of a still-life painting into the home, featuring artwork by Kate Jarvik Birch. The composition centres on a dark, glossy bowl holding brown eggs, set over a striped tea towel with one egg resting beside it, all cast under clean diagonal sunlight and graphic shadows. With its painted brushwork, warm terracotta tones, deep charcoals, and cool slate blues, this design creates an inviting focal point on any wall. Like all of our wallpapers, it is made to measure to your exact wall dimensions and printed on PVC-free paper with a subtle paper texture.

In the room

We love how this wall mural brings intimacy and character to culinary and social spaces in the home. It is a natural fit for a dining room, kitchen, or breakfast nook, where its still-life subject matter instantly connects with the purpose of the space. Because the artwork has a painterly composition with a distinct play of light and shadow, we think it works best on an accent wall where the full scene can be viewed without being heavily obscured by tall cupboards or high shelving. In an open-plan kitchen and dining area, placing this design on the wall alongside a dining table anchors the eating zone and adds warmth to the entire room.

Styling it

The balance of deep tones and soft painted details makes this design wonderfully versatile to style. We suggest pairing it with warm natural wood furniture, such as an oak or walnut dining table, which echoes the earthy tones of the eggs in the painting. Simple matte ceramic tableware and understated pendant lighting help maintain an authentic, handcrafted feel without competing with the bold stripes and reflective details of the bowl. Keeping nearby surfaces relatively clean allows the painterly brushstrokes and graphic diagonal lighting of the mural to remain the focal point of the space.

Colour combinations

The palette in our design combines warm terracotta and ochre shades with deep indigo, slate grey, crisp off-white, and soft neutral backgrounds. Around the mural wallpapers, we recommend picking up on these tones with complementary wall colours. Soft warm whites or pale bone shades on adjacent walls keep the room bright and let the mural stand out. If you prefer a richer and more intimate setting, deep navy, slate blue, or muted charcoal paint on surrounding woodwork and skirting boards creates a sophisticated frame around the artwork.
