Wallpaper - Melting

Our Melting wallpaper, created by Kate Jarvik Birch, captures a single ice cube slowly dissolving into a pool of water with an expressive, painted aesthetic. The artwork explores light, transparency, and reflection through a cool palette of ice blues, slate greys, crisp whites, and deep indigos, balanced by subtle warm yellow and amber highlights refracted through the frozen form. The striking scale and graphic composition create a distinct focal point on the wall. Produced made-to-measure on PVC-free paper with a subtle surface structure, it brings a fresh, contemporary artistic perspective into the home.

In the room

Because of the bold, central scale of the motif, we see this wall mural working particularly well as an accent wall in an open-plan living room, a modern dining area, or a creative home office. In a living room, placing it on an uninterrupted wall behind a low sofa gives the painterly reflections and geometric angles plenty of breathing room. The cool blue tones also work naturally in a contemporary kitchen or hallway where you want an unexpected, conversation-starting piece of art.

Styling it

To balance the cool tones and graphic character of the artwork, we suggest pairing the wallpaper with warm, grounded interior elements. Natural mid-toned wood furniture, such as ash or teak, brings warmth against the icy palette. Clean-lined contemporary furniture prevents the space from feeling cluttered around such a distinctive visual subject. Incorporating smooth glass accents, polished chrome details, or matte dark metal hardware echoes the reflective quality and sharp contrasts within the painting without competing for attention.

Colour combinations

The palette in our wallpaper centres on icy blues, pale sky tones, slate, and navy, punctuated by crisp white highlights and warm amber reflections. For adjoining painted walls and woodwork, soft off-whites, cool greys, or muted slate blues provide a seamless, cohesive background. If you want to introduce contrast, accents in warm ochre, camel, or deep navy in your soft furnishings will highlight the subtle refractions within the ice cube.
