Wallpaper - Folk Animals I

Our Folk Animals I wallpaper by Omar Escalante brings together folk art illustration and graphic storytelling. At the centre of the composition sits a stylized monkey figure in deep black with linear terracotta detailing, surrounded by vivid pink floral blooms, scattered green leaves, and a geometric diamond border in sage and dark slate. The warm ochre-tan backdrop gives the artwork an earthy, hand-painted appearance with a distinct artisanal character. Made-to-measure on PVC-free paper with a subtle surface structure, our wallpaper creates an expressive focal point that adds warmth and artistic personality to any interior.

In the room

With its strong central motif and illustrative framing, we see this design working exceptionally well as a feature wall in a living room, hallway, or dining space. Placing it on a main wall behind a low sofa or dining table keeps the full animal illustration and decorative border clearly visible, allowing the artwork to anchor the entire room. In a compact entryway or guest bedroom, the rich ochre background and lively floral details create an inviting, enveloping atmosphere across a single accent wall without feeling overwhelming.

Styling it

To let the expressive folk illustration stand out, we suggest pairing the wallpaper with simple, characterful interior elements. Warm wood furniture, such as honey-toned oak or vintage mid-century pieces, naturally complements the earthy ochre base. You can balance the graphic black lines of the central figure with soft, tactile textiles in unbleached cotton or linen. Choosing clean-lined ceramics or minimal black metal accents will echo the defined edges of the design while keeping the surrounding room grounded and calm.

Colour combinations

The palette is built around a warm ochre-tan background, deep black illustration work, terracotta accents, vibrant magenta-pink flowers, and soft sage green details along the border. For adjacent walls and painted woodwork, soft muted creams or pale warm off-whites create a gentle, balanced backdrop that lets the mural colours take centre stage. If you prefer a richer, more cohesive look, echoing the soft sage green or warm terracotta in surrounding accessories, cushions, or painted trim works beautifully.
