Wallpaper - Papilion Chase Green

Our Papilion Chase Green wallpaper, created by designer Janelle Penner, features an artistic pattern of moths, beetles, and delicate botanical sprigs set against a deep emerald green ground. The watercolour-like paint drawing pairs soft terracotta, warm ochre, cream, and muted sage leaves with playful insect illustrations in a balanced, rhythmic repeat. Made to measure and printed on PVC-free paper with a subtle physical structure, this design brings a whimsical natural heritage feel to your interior.

In the room

We see this design working beautifully across an entire bedroom, study, or dressing room where its rich background creates an enveloping, characterful atmosphere. The medium-scale repeat and structured botanical arrangement give the pattern enough order to sit comfortably on continuous walls without feeling chaotic. In a hallway, staircase, or dining room, it provides an engaging decorative backdrop that catches the eye whether viewed up close or across the room. In rooms with generous daylight, the contrast between the pale moth wings, warm terracotta blossoms, and dark emerald base stands out with clarity, while soft lamplight brings forward the earthy, golden tones in the evening.

Styling it

To let the illustrative character of our wall murals lead the room, we suggest balancing the walls with quiet, understated furnishings. Darker wood tones like walnut or antique timber sit naturally alongside the heritage-inspired motifs, anchoring the space with a traditional feel.

For surrounding textures, matte finishes and natural woven upholstery in soft oatmeal, flax, or warm cream allow the emerald green background to remain the focal point. Keeping hardware in muted antique brass or blackened metal complements the entomological aesthetic without introducing excessive shine.

Colour combinations

The wallpaper centres on a deep emerald green base, punctuated by warm terracotta, ochre, muted sage, and pale cream highlights. When choosing paint colours for surrounding woodwork, skirting, or adjacent walls, consider pulling out the creamy tones from the moth wings for a classic, high-contrast look that keeps the space feeling open.

If you prefer a moodier, heritage aesthetic, pairing the design with a deep moss green or rich forest tone on architraves and cabinetry creates a seamless, grounded transition. Soft clay or terracotta accents in cushions and ceramics will also subtly echo the small floral details throughout the repeat.
