Wallpaper - Zelij Ovals

Designed by Julia Dreams, our Zelij Ovals wallpaper brings an orderly, retro-inspired geometric rhythm to the wall with a distinctly calm sensibility. The composition pairs rounded oval tiles and softer square accents in muted sage green and warm neutral tones, framed by clean white outlines. Subtle textural details within each geometric shape give the pattern visual depth without overwhelming the eye. Like all our wall murals, this design is made-to-measure on PVC-free paper with a subtle surface structure, creating an understated backdrop that balances mid-century character with timeless ease.

In the room

The balanced proportions of the repeating oval geometry make this wallpaper especially versatile across different room layouts. In a living room, we see it working well on a continuous feature wall behind a low sofa or credenza, where the structured grid provides a calm visual anchor. For a dining room, the rhythm of the repeating ovals creates an engaging backdrop around the table without competing with dining furniture. Because the contrast remains soft, the pattern can easily wrap around multiple walls in smaller dining nooks or open-plan living areas without making the space feel crowded.

Styling it

The subtle 1960s and 70s undertones of the geometric layout lend themselves naturally to mid-century modern and retro-contemporary interiors. We would pair this wallpaper with low-profile furniture crafted from warm woods like teak or oak to complement the gentle warmth in the background palette. Upholstered pieces in tactile bouclé, woven wool, or matte linen keep the room feeling soft and layered. To balance the curved motifs, we suggest introducing clean architectural lines in lighting fixtures or side tables with simple brushed brass or matte white accents.

Colour combinations

The palette within the design is defined by soft sage green, pale neutral stone, and crisp white separation lines. When choosing paint colours and materials for adjacent walls, trim, or cabinetry, we suggest leaning into creamy off-whites and pale stone hues to maintain the wallpaper's light, airy character. For a deeper accent, muted olive greens, warm taupes, or earthy terracotta accessories echo the design's retro origins while adding grounded depth to the room.
