Wallpaper - River Mist

Our River Mist wallpaper, created in collaboration with artist Julia Purinton, captures a tranquil atmospheric landscape where soft fog drifts across winding water and gentle tree lines. Expressed through painterly, blended brushwork with a visible woven-canvas look in the background, the composition balances muted charcoal, sepia, and warm cream tones with an ethereal glow in the central sky. It brings an expansive, quiet horizon into a room while maintaining an understated, fine-art presence. Like all of our wallpapers, it is made-to-measure to fit your wall dimensions and printed on PVC-free paper with a subtle paper structure.

In the room

Because of its open sky and atmospheric depth, we see this wall mural working particularly well on an uninterrupted main wall where the full horizon line can breathe. In a bedroom, placing it behind the headboard creates a serene backdrop that anchors the space without feeling heavy or visually busy. In a living room or dining area, it functions much like an expansive landscape painting, drawing the eye naturally across the room and adding a sense of gentle space.

The design also suits a quiet study or home office, where the soft transitions between earth and mist offer a calm visual resting point. In spaces with generous natural light, the subtle gradations between warm stone and cool grey become especially clear, while softer lamplight in the evening brings forward the warm, luminous tones across the riverbank.

Styling it

To complement the painterly character of this mural wallpaper, we would keep surrounding furnishings understated and grounded in texture. Simple furniture with clean, tailored silhouettes lets the soft brushstrokes and atmospheric haze remain the focal point of the space.

Warm wood tones like smoked oak, walnut, or muted ash work beautifully alongside the earthy pigments in the foreground. For larger upholstery and soft furnishings, tactile fabrics such as washed linen, bouclé, or brushed wool in warm off-white, oat, or charcoal provide a natural textural balance to the smooth canvas-like motif.

Colour combinations

The design itself is built from a delicate palette of warm cream, parchment, misty grey, soft sepia, and deeper charcoal earth tones. When planning your surrounding walls and woodwork, we recommend echoing these muted, natural shades to create a cohesive interior.

For adjacent walls and skirting, soft plaster tones, warm off-white, or pale greige allow the wallpaper to flow seamlessly into the room. If you prefer a moodier contrast, a deeper taupe, muted charcoal, or warm slate grey drawn from the dark shoreline in the lower foreground creates a striking, enveloping feel across doors or joinery.
