Wallpaper - San Mateo California Skyline Purple & Gold

Our San Mateo California Skyline Purple & Gold wallpaper by Michael Tompsett translates urban architecture into a dramatic watercolour-style skyline. Set against an open, crisp white background, the architectural silhouette features a rich blend of deep mulberry purple and warm golden ochre tones, accented by fluid splatters and ink-like blooms. The horizontal composition balances defined building profiles with expressive, painterly texture along the lower edge. Made to measure for your wall, this PVC-free wallpaper combines graphic clarity with an artistic, contemporary character.

In the room

Because the silhouette runs horizontally across the lower and middle sections with generous negative space above, we see this working particularly well as a focal point in a living room or home office. On a main wall behind a low-profile sofa, the skyline anchors the seating area while the clear white backdrop keeps the upper wall light and airy. In a study or workspace, placing the mural behind a desk gives the room a sophisticated, creative backdrop without feeling visually cluttered.

The design is well suited to wider, uninterrupted wall areas where the full progression of buildings and expressive paint splatters can unfold naturally across the space.

Styling it

We recommend pairing this design with clean-lined furniture that respects the artwork's contemporary, graphic nature. Low-slung silhouettes in seating and streamlined desks allow the distinctive skyline profile to remain fully visible rather than obscured by tall storage units.

To complement the rich purple and golden tones, we like bringing in warm wood finishes or understated brass accents in task lighting and framing. Keeping surrounding textiles relatively simple ensures the focus remains on the expressive painterly detailing of the wall mural.

Colour combinations

The design itself features deep mulberry, rich purple, and warm golden ochre set against an off-white field.

For adjacent walls and woodwork, soft warm whites or pale neutral greys create a seamless transition that highlights the central artwork. If you prefer a richer aesthetic, echoing the golden tones through warm amber accessories or introducing muted plum textiles brings out the deeper pigments within the skyline without overwhelming the space.
