Wallpaper - Memphis Tennessee Skyline Purple & Gold

Created by Michael Tompsett, this architectural design captures the Memphis city skyline in an expressive watercolour-like style. Rich shades of dark mulberry purple and earthy ochre gold merge across the silhouettes of iconic landmarks, from the distinct truss bridge on the left to the towering skyscrapers and the Memphis Pyramid. Fine paint splatters and organic ink drips feather downwards against a clean white backdrop, lending a dramatic, artistic rhythm to the horizontal composition. Like all Wallism mural wallpapers, this design is made-to-measure on PVC-free paper with a subtle surface structure, making it a striking choice for an accent wall.

In the room

Because the skyline runs horizontally along the lower and middle sections with an open white sky above, this design works particularly well on wider, uninterrupted walls. In a living room, placing the mural behind a low-profile sofa allows the architectural silhouette and energetic paint splatters to remain fully visible without feeling obstructed. We also see this working exceptionally well in a dedicated home office, where the artistic depiction of the urban landscape adds depth and character behind a desk. Because the upper half of the wall remains clear and airy, the room retains a spacious feel while the lower band anchors the space with rich colour and graphic interest.

Styling it

To complement the expressive, modern character of the artwork, we would pair this wallpaper with clean-lined furniture and contemporary silhouettes. Pieces with slim profiles or low backrests help keep the cityscape visible across the full width of the room. In an eclectic or modern living area, furniture in dark finishes or warm timber tones harmonises naturally with the deep tones of the mural. Introducing matte black metal accents through lighting fixtures or table frames can echo the crisp structural lines of the bridge and skyscrapers, grounding the fluid, painterly splatters with architectural precision.

Colour combinations

The motif is built upon deep mulberry purple, warm earthy gold, ochre, and soft lilac washes set against crisp white. On surrounding walls, a soft, warm off-white keeps the room bright and allows the rich jewel and earth tones to stand out as the focal point. If you want to create a moodier, more enveloping atmosphere, deep aubergine or charcoal grey on adjacent walls or joinery picks up the darkest elements of the cityscape silhouette. Muted gold, mustard, or brass accents in decorative objects also tie into the warm ochre tones that flow through the urban silhouette.
