Wallpaper - Nantucket Afternoon

Designed by Kathy Ferguson, our Nantucket Afternoon wallpaper brings together horizontal collage-like strips with mixed abstract patterns, pencil-like scribbles, and painted paper textures. The composition balances cool lilac, lavender, and deep oceanic blues alongside vivid magenta stripes and soft off-white planes. Distinctive sections of fine pattern, including spotted domes, repeating linework, and soft washes, create a layered, modern gallery character across the wall. Made to measure on our PVC-free paper with a subtle physical surface structure, this design is simple to hang and creates an expressive focal point in contemporary interiors.

In the room

We see this design working particularly well as an accent wall in a living room, dining space, or creative home office where its horizontal layering can stretch across a wide surface. Because the motif is divided into rhythmic bands with varying levels of detail, it provides plenty of visual intrigue without feeling overwhelming. In a bedroom, placing it behind a low headboard lets the upper bands of soft lavender, white, and pencil marks remain visible, creating a dynamic backdrop that anchors the entire room.

Styling it

To let the mixed abstract collage take centre stage, we suggest keeping large surrounding furniture relatively understated in form and tone. Low-profile seating in neutral upholstery, clean-lined sideboards, or painted cabinetry allow the wallpaper's graphic movement to lead the eye.

When introducing complementary materials, painted wood in muted chalky finishes or dark blue accents pair naturally with the cooler sections of the artwork. Matte ceramic lighting or slender black metal frames provide a crisp contrast against the expressive, hand-crafted aesthetic of the collage bands.

Colour combinations

Our design features a rich palette of lilac, lavender, deep navy, vibrant magenta, and crisp off-white, alongside hints of soft teal and slate blue.

For adjacent walls and woodwork, soft off-white or pale chalky lavender will keep the room feeling bright and cohesive. If you prefer a bolder, more grounded interior, pulling out the deep navy or ink blue on neighbouring joinery or a feature bookcase creates a striking, tailored contrast against the brighter magenta and lilac bands.
