Wallpaper - Spot Swordtail Butterfly

Our Spot Swordtail Butterfly wallpaper by Mackenzie Nelson showcases a striking, graphic study of a swordtail butterfly set against a softly brushed neutral backdrop. What we particularly appreciate about this mural design is the hand-painted character of the brushstrokes, giving natural depth to the bold black and white wing patterns and delicate trailing tails. The warm cream background softens the overall contrast, allowing the detailed specimen to act as an expressive focal point without overwhelming a space. Like all our mural wallpapers, this design is made to measure and printed on PVC-free paper with a subtle physical surface structure.

In the room

Because of its strong central presence and illustrative style, we see this wall mural working particularly well on an accent wall where the entire butterfly motif can be viewed without disruption. In a bedroom, placing it directly behind a low headboard allows the wing structure to frame the sleeping area naturally. It also works beautifully in a living room behind a sofa, or in a dedicated home office or study where an artistic, nature-inspired focal wall adds personality without clutter.

For rooms with generous natural light, the subtle brushwork in the cream backdrop reveals more of its painterly texture, while soft ambient evening light emphasizes the graphic contrast of the dark wings.

Styling it

When styling around our Spot Swordtail Butterfly design, we suggest leaning into clean lines and understated materials that balance the bold, detailed artwork:

• Pair the wallpaper with warm timber or dark wood furniture to echo the rich tones of the butterfly's markings.
• Keep surrounding upholstery and soft furnishings in quiet, textured neutrals like off-white, oat, or charcoal to let the wall remain the visual anchor.
• Introduce minimalist matte black accents or tailored picture frames elsewhere in the room to mirror the graphic black linework of the wings.

Colour combinations

The palette within our wallpaper revolves around deep charcoal black, clean white, and a gentle cream background with subtle beige undertones.

To create a cohesive scheme, we recommend pairing the mural with warm off-white or soft cream paint on adjacent walls, keeping the overall room bright and harmonious. If you prefer a richer, more intimate atmosphere, framing the design with deep charcoal, soft black, or muted stone on surrounding woodwork and skirting creates a sophisticated, gallery-like feel.
