Our Mistaya River wallpaper captures a powerful river rushing through a dramatic rocky gorge, framed by dense evergreen trees and distant snow-capped mountain peaks. Photographed by Jim Wiebe, the composition balances the pale, frothy movement of cascading white water against dark slate-grey canyon cliffs and a soft, purple-tinged sky. In the room

Because of the strong vertical depth created by the canyon walls and distant mountain peaks, we find this mural wallpaper works particularly well on an uninterrupted focal wall in a living room. Giving the panoramic landscape space to breathe allows the full progression from rushing water in the foreground to remote mountain ridge to remain clearly visible. In a dedicated meditation room or holiday home retreat, the quiet balance between cool slate blues, deep forest greens, and muted stone creates an expansive, grounded atmosphere.

Styling it

The organic modern character and photographic realism of the design pair naturally with grounded, unvarnished materials. To complement the layered geology in the print, we would lean towards warm, natural timber furniture alongside comfortable upholstery in coarse textured weaves or brushed wool. Keeping the surrounding furniture profiles relatively clean and low-slung ensures the dramatic vertical gorge remains the primary visual statement in the space, avoiding visual competition between intricate joinery and the detailed rock textures.

Colour combinations

The palette within our design centres on deep slate blue, cool greys, forest greens, and crisp white water, subtly softened by a purple tint across the upper sky. For adjacent walls and surrounding trim, we suggest soft pebble greys, warm off-whites, or muted stone tones that echo the cliff formations without cooling down the room excessively. If you want to draw out the deeper forest elements, deep pine or dark charcoal can be used on secondary woodwork or key furniture pieces to anchor the space.
