Wallpaper - Standing Horse at a Fence

Our Standing Horse at a Fence wallpaper combines a finely sketched equestrian scene with a classic tartan border frame. The central illustration captures a solitary horse standing beside a wooden paddock fence near water, rendered in soft sepia and warm brown pencil-like drawing tones. Surrounding the vignette, a wide checked plaid pattern in biscuit, taupe, and creamy beige brings structure and a traditional country feel to the composition. Printed as made-to-measure wallpaper on PVC-free paper with a subtle surface structure, this design brings together equestrian charm and heritage patterning in one balanced mural.

In the room

We see this wallpaper working beautifully on a feature wall in a cosy living room, a quiet study, or a welcoming hallway. The framed illustration draws the eye inward, functioning visually like a grand framed artwork, which makes it particularly suited to an uninterrupted wall behind a sofa, a reading chair, or a study desk. In a dining room or guest bedroom, the warm sepia tones create an inviting, grounded atmosphere without feeling visually heavy or overwhelming the space.

Styling it

We would pair this mural wallpaper with warm, natural materials that complement its rustic, heritage aesthetic. Traditional dark wood furniture, such as walnut or rich oak, highlights the deeper sketch lines of the horse, while textured linen upholstery in neutral tones keeps the overall room feeling soft and cohesive. Muted brass accents or antique bronze details on lamps and door hardware echo the country house character without competing with the plaid border.

Colour combinations

The design itself is built on warm sepia, soft chocolate brown, taupe, and pale oatmeal cream. When choosing paint for adjacent walls or woodwork, we suggest pulling from these undertones. Warm stone, soft biscuit, or muted greige create a seamless, calming transition around the room. For a richer, more defined contrast on skirting boards or built-in shelving, a deep taupe or heritage warm brown ties in directly with the drawn linework.
