Wallpaper - Technicolor Downpour

Our Technicolor Downpour wallpaper by Kate Jarvik Birch captures a rainy city street at night with expressive, painterly energy. A lone silhouetted figure walks beneath an umbrella along the pavement, framed by glowing shopfronts and reflections shimmering across wet tarmac. Rich midnight blues and charcoal rain streaks balance vibrant splashes of orange, amber, teal, and glowing bokeh streetlights. Made-to-measure and PVC-free, this design brings atmospheric urban storytelling and a bold illustrative character to modern living spaces.

In the room

We love how this wall mural creates an immediate focal point in a living room, dining area, or home office. Because the composition features distinct vertical weight through the silhouetted pedestrian and street lamp, it works exceptionally well on an open feature wall where the entire scene can unfold without large, high-backed furniture blocking the lower reflections. In a hallway or study, the deep nocturnal palette establishes an intimate, enveloping atmosphere, while the bright neon-warm reflections keep the visual weight lively and dynamic.

Styling it

To let the expressive painterly brushwork take centre stage, we suggest keeping large surrounding furniture relatively understated in form:

• Pair with contemporary furniture featuring clean, low profiles and darker wood tones like stained ash or walnut that ground the deep blue sky.
• Introduce accent pieces or soft furnishings in burnt orange, ochre, or petrol blue to subtly echo the wet-pavement reflections.
• Incorporate simple matte black or deep bronze lighting fixtures that complement the architectural silhouette without competing with the detailed brushwork.

Colour combinations

The motif is built around a dramatic contrast of cool night blues, slate greys, and deep black, ignited by vibrant pops of orange, warm amber, soft chartreuse, and icy blue reflections. For surrounding walls, we recommend pulling out a muted charcoal or slate blue to create a moody, cohesive envelope. If you prefer a lighter contrast, warm off-white or soft putty on woodwork and neighbouring surfaces lets the rich colours of the mural pop crisply.
