Our Shape Shifter, Sage wallpaper, created by designer Irina Chikati, layers soft organic silhouettes, layered patches, and painterly brushstroke textures across a calm, earthy palette. Muted sage green, dusty olive, soft pistachio, warm biscuit, and taupe overlap in a balanced abstract composition that brings an artful rhythm to the wall. The gentle contrast and medium scale make it easy to incorporate into living spaces and bedrooms. Printed to your specific dimensions, this made-to-measure, PVC-free wallpaper has a subtle physical structure in the paper and is straightforward to hang.
About the design
In this design, we brought together abstract papercut-inspired shapes and sweeping brushstrokes to create a composition that feels both deliberate and relaxed. Irina Chikati balances larger, rounded blocks of colour with gestural marks, daubs, and horizontal strokes that resemble gouache or layered tempera.
What we particularly like about our wallpaper is the interplay between translucent-looking layers and more opaque colour fields. Certain shapes appear to rest beneath a wash of pale pistachio or sand, while richer olive and taupe elements ground the foreground. Because the forms vary in scale and direction, the repeat avoids feeling overly rigid, giving the wall murals a fluid, painterly presence from across the room and intriguing visual texture when viewed up close.
In the room
We see this design working beautifully in spaces where you want visual interest without overwhelming the room. In a living room, giving the wallpaper a wide, relatively uninterrupted wall behind a sofa allows the full interplay of overlapping shapes to unfold. Because the contrast between the green and neutral tones remains gentle, it also works comfortably across all four walls in a bedroom, creating an enveloping, cohesive atmosphere.
In a hallway or a home office, the vertical orientation of several central shapes helps draw the eye upward, giving walls a sense of height. We also like how the design adapts to rooms with varied daylight. In bright morning sun, the pale sage and cream backgrounds keep the room airy, while under warmer evening lamplight, the biscuit and earthy taupe tones step forward to create a cosier feel.
Styling it
When styling around our design, we suggest leaning into contemporary or Scandinavian-inspired interiors with an emphasis on natural materials. Furniture in light ash, pale birch, or warm oak sits very comfortably alongside the sandy beige and soft green tones in the motif.
To keep the room grounded, we would introduce matte finishes, such as unglazed ceramic vases, stoneware lamps, or low-sheen painted woodwork. Since the pattern already provides rich surface variety, surrounding textiles like curtains and upholstery can remain relatively quiet, favouring plain weaves or subtle slub textures in neutral shades. A few accents in darkened bronze or matte iron can provide a crisp, modern counterpoint to the softer pastel shapes.
Colour combinations
The wallpaper itself is built on a harmonious palette of muted sage green, pale mint, olive, warm taupe, sand, and off-white.
When choosing colours for surrounding walls, ceiling surfaces, or built-in joinery, we suggest working with chalky off-whites or pale stone neutrals to let the design stand out as the primary visual focus. If you prefer a richer, more tailored finish, pairing the wallpaper with woodwork painted in a deeper muted olive or an earthy mushroom grey echoes the darkest patches in the print and creates a striking frame around the wall.
