Wallpaper - Conoid Grain, Payne's Grey

Our Conoid Grain, Payne's Grey wallpaper brings a graphic interpretation of organic timber grain to the wall. Designed by Wallism Studio, the motif layers fluid, swirling linework and elongated woodgrain contours in deep, moody Payne's grey against a muted, slate-toned grey backdrop. The vertical rhythm creates height and visual movement without overwhelming the room, striking a refined balance between architectural structure and nature-inspired pattern. Like all our wallpapers, this design is made-to-measure to fit your room dimensions and printed on PVC-free paper with a subtle surface structure.

In the room

We see this design working particularly well in spaces where you want vertical continuity and an architectural presence. In an entryway or hallway, the flowing grain pattern draws the eye upwards and gives narrower wall areas a tailored, considered backdrop. For a home office or living room, it works effortlessly on a main wall behind a desk or low sideboard, adding texture and graphic depth while keeping the overall room calm. The understated grey palette also makes it a great choice for a modern bedroom, creating an enveloping feel behind the bed without clashing with existing furnishings.

Styling it

Because the pattern carries a distinct graphic rhythm, we recommend balancing it with clean-lined furniture and tactile, grounded materials.

• Pair the cool grey tones with natural timber pieces, such as oiled oak or rich walnut, to introduce warmth and create an interesting contrast between real wood and stylized grain.
• Keep surrounding upholstery and soft furnishings relatively understated in neutral woven fabrics, allowing the linework on the wall to remain the central decorative feature.
• Use matte black or dark bronze hardware and lighting accents to echo the deeper contour lines in the wallpaper.

Colour combinations

The wallpaper is composed of deep Payne's grey linework over a cool, muted grey background. To complement these tones, we suggest pairing adjacent walls and woodwork with chalky off-whites, soft greys, or muted charcoal. If you want to introduce colour through accents or textiles, dusty blue, forest green, or subtle rust shades create a harmonious, nature-inspired palette that sits naturally alongside the grey woodgrain.
