Wallpaper - Grain Clad, Slate

Our Grain Clad, Slate wallpaper brings the organic rhythm of vertical timber panelling into a monochrome, architectural format. The design features wide vertical planks displaying detailed wood grain, natural knot swirls, and subtle tonal shifts across shades of cool slate grey, charcoal, and soft graphite. What we particularly like is the balance between the natural, rustic character of the grain structure and the refined, contemporary feel of the dark grey palette. Produced as a made-to-measure wallpaper, it is PVC-free and features a subtle physical structure in the paper that gives our wall murals a clean, considered appearance across any wall size.

In the room

The strong vertical planks give this design a natural sense of height, drawing the eye upward and grounding the space. We see this working particularly well in a living room behind a low-profile sofa, or in a dining room where the rhythmic vertical lines can anchor the dining area. Because the pattern has a steady, continuous repeat without overpowering visual contrast, it handles wider uninterrupted walls with ease while also sitting comfortably across multiple walls in a home office or hallway.

In rooms with generous daylight, the delicate line work and tonal transitions within the slate wood grain remain crisp and clear. Under warmer, focused evening lighting, the deeper charcoal undertones step forward, creating a cosy, enveloping atmosphere that works beautifully in a bedroom behind the headboard.

Styling it

Because this design introduces both linear structure and organic visual texture, we suggest balancing it with clean-lined furniture and tactile materials.

• Pair with contemporary low-slung furniture in matte black, off-white, or rich walnut to complement the vertical geometry without fighting the grain pattern.
• Introduce textured upholstery and soft furnishings, such as looped wool rugs, bouclé, or washed linen, to soften the architectural feel of the panelling.
• Incorporate brushed metal hardware, such as blackened steel or muted bronze light fittings, which echo the sophisticated grey tones.

Colour combinations

The palette within our mural wallpapers centres on cool slate greys, smoky charcoal, and lighter graphite tones that highlight the wood grain. When considering surrounding surfaces, crisp off-whites, chalky soft greys, and muted mineral tones on adjacent painted walls create a seamless, cohesive backdrop.

For a more atmospheric, tonal scheme, deep charcoal or near-black paintwork on woodwork and skirtings enhances the architectural presence of the panelling. If you prefer to bring in subtle colour accents, muted earthy tones like olive green, warm ochre, or burnt rust sit comfortably against the neutral slate base without distracting from the natural motif.
